The only book showing the handmade and hidden Food from Wallace & Gromit
c. 2022This project shows how much of an obsessed enthusiast I am with the infamous British show, Wallace & Gromit.
Wallace & Gromit is a show that I grew up with as a child and even now have sustained a deep relationship with it. The visual language and handmade feeling in the films bring back an instant sense of nostalgia to me. There are so many hidden gems and details which I believe most of us would have not noticed before – such as the food. By bringing spotlight and significance to these little overlooked visuals, there is an ability to reuse wasted visual material, as well as for you to recognise the incredible depths of details.
The outcome, a book, is a form of art. It embraces the hidden and overlooked craft and we can appreciate it more than ever, especially for viewers who have never encountered the show before. I want people to view and accept this piece as it is and know that it solely exists in the world. Although it might seem ridiculous to have it published and hand-bound with a hardcover, as well as being sealed, there is something valuable and precious behind the whole creation. For me, the work resonates strongly with my childhood interest and memory of constantly watching Wallace & Gromit as young as I could remember. I imagined how it might look if it was listed on a high-end auction site such as StockX.
If you have not watched any of the films, the visual elements alone in this publication seem powerful enough to even suggest a narrative and/or the themes which occur within the series. But please do watch them if you have not. This is my reinterpretation, representation and response to the films that I dearly cherish.
