Dulwich Books
c. 2021This project explored the aim of creating a new sustainable and generative visual identity for an ‘uncorporate’ organisation. I selected Dulwich Books for my chosen independent organisation, which is a long-serving book shop that my parents had often taken me as a child whilst growing up in the local area.
I was able to execute the designs of a bespoke typeface, various applications of the identity and the shop front. I also created additional interventions with supporting visuals that would help further enhance my brand aim; this was to bring their focus to the local area and make reading more accessible and enjoyable to everyone who reads or aspires to read.
By recognising what was unique to the area of Dulwich and how it had progressed over time as a suburban town in London, I made the decision for the visual assets that I create to match the progressive hipster-like cafes and shops within the area. Therefore, I had a strong passion to evolve the visual identity of the brand to look contemporary and up-to-date. I wanted to make it clear that it had some form of graphical embellishment, but I also tried to retain its unpretentious and pure quality through tone of language and the consideration of subtle details such as the placement of text.
