All the Chairs Inside my House
c. 2022Chairs are everywhere and they are embedded within our daily routine of living, but most of us do not realise it. We build some of our greatest moments or carry out conversations, connections and interactions with the aid of a chair. They simply hold so many memories and can inevitably construct the identity of any space.
I decided to use chairs as a medium of expression to give identity to the place I have lived for the duration of my whole life - my home. I used my home as the main location to share with others as I wanted to somehow 'give back' to the house that I treasured, especially because I will soon need to move out with my family due to circumstances. I hoped my project could make viewers rethink and question their own chairs - discover the beautiful stories and ability to give identity to an enclosed space hidden within them.
My outcome was a large foldable poster that portrays illustrations of each chair, a brief description of their qualities from my perspective and the location of the chair within the house; I imagined the piece of paper to be a metaphorical representation of our house. On the reverse side, photographs of the chairs in their most normal form have been captured using a film camera to bring out a greater sense of nostalgia and emotion.
